YWCA Employee First Among Women at Ultraman
Lauren Fithian, personal trainer, spinning instructor and masters swimmer at the YWCA Minneapolis came in first among women in this year's Ultraman triathlon.

"I raced in honor of all those who face extreme physical challenges in their own lives--whether through battling an illness or by force of tragic political circumstances or for any other reason beyond their own control. I invited participants in my classes to let me know if they wanted to add a name to my list and several of them did. I also raced in support of the "ultra" physical strength inherent in all women and to call attention to the fact that too many women the world over are actively discouraged or even prohibited from engaging in athletic pursuits. It breaks my heart to know that many women are prevented from experiencing the joy of vigorous physical activity and physical fitness."
