Child Care Centers
Children are full of wonder and possibility.
YWCA Children's Centers provide full time high quality early childhood education and care using bias-free curriculum designed to meet rigorous national accreditation standards. Infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, and school-age children attend Centers at the Downtown and Midtown YWCAs and at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
- MN Reading Corps Literacy Specialists work with the children at all three of our Children's Centers.
- Our Children's Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital provides language-specific care in Somali and Spanish and a unique business development program for cultural childcare providers.
- A full-time kindergarten program is offered at our Downtown location.
The mission of the YWCA Early Childhood Education programs is to nurture children in partnership with their families and to prepare them for success in school by:
- Helping each child reach his/her cognitive, emotional, and physical potential
- Promoting respect for diverse cultures, backgrounds, and abilities
- Fostering community involvement and responsibility in children
We believe in nurturing the whole child and celebrating the family. Our Centers often host family events that celebrate parents, children, their community and their heritage. With this foundation of love, support and attention, we prepare over 300 children each year to succeed in school and in life.
- Of children enrolled in our Children's Centers for more than six months, 93% demonstrated age appropriate skills and developmental progress.
- 100% of our prekindergarten children passed the Minneapolis kindergarten readiness screening, significantly surpassing the state average of approximately 50% of Minnesota children testing ready for school.
