YWCA Indoor Triathlons

An indoor triathlon is a perfect way for beginner to introduce themselves to the thrill of triathlon or veterans to test their fitness without the stress and hassles of open water or wrangling with a bike. We provide the pool and bike. You just have to swim, bike and run. Loads of fun! Learn more.

Triathlon Classes

First Tri Clinics - FREE

If you are aiming for your first tri or could use a few more tips, come learn from and ask questions of coaches and veteran triathletes. Find out what gear you need and don’t need, clothing recommendations, what to expect race day, how to make the swim less daunting, how the transition area works, what are the rules, and anything else on your mind! Free and open to the community.

Triathlon Race Skills Class

Our popular summer class that takes place at outdoor locations and focuses on specific skills needed for outdoor triathlons such as bike handling, open water swimming, transitions, gear, race day planning and more. Last day includes race day prep and a mini-practice tri! Most helpful for beginner-intermediate triathletes. Learn how to enjoy the sport to the fullest by advancing your skills and learning the tricks of the tri! Led by Paul Johnson, USA Triathlon certified coach.

2010 Classes:

  • TRS #1: Sundays, June 6 (1-5pm), June 13/20 (1-3pm)
  • TRS #2: Mon/Wed, June 7/9, 14/16 (6:15-8:15pm)
  • TRS #3: Sundays, July 18/25 (8am-12pm)

All classes meet on the grass area at the north end of Lake Nokomis Main Beach (west side of lake). Classes are limited to 25. If there is demand, we will add an additional session(s). Women's Triathlon Course Preview Workshop

Knowing the course is one of the best strategies for beginners and competitive triathletes alike. Get a visual of the swim, walk the transition area, and bike the run and bike courses. You don't have to be registered for the Women's Triathlon to do this workshop, so bring a friend or join us for the fun of it. Led by Paul Johnson, co-race director and USA Triathlon certified coach.

NEW: Strength and Conditioning for Runners & Triathletes

Use this class to enhance your running and triathlon endeavors. Led by a YWCA trainer who is experienced working with runners and triathletes, you will learn how to both prehab and resist injuries as well as rehab typical endurance sports overuse ailments. You will get the chance to experience a variety of strength and conditioning methods including weights, core, balance, stretching, TRX and Pilates.

Classes are limited to 10 and meet 55 minutes once a week for six weeks.

NEW: Swim Conditioning

Are you a triathlete (or wannabe) for whom swimming is your third sport? A recreational swimmer that wants to experience how much more fun it is to swim with a group? Need a stepping stone to masters? Join us to learn workout design, freestyle technique and training, the basics of the competitive strokes (breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly), flip turns, swim jargon, equipment and more. Class sessions meet once a week for six weeks and are taught by experienced coaches. If there is demand, we will consider additional session(s).

Pre-Requisite: Ability to continuously swim 200 yards
