Assistant Youth Worker: Strong Fast Fit Program
Location: Midtown YWCA, 2121 East Lake Street, Minneapolis
Downtown YWCA, 1130 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis
Summary:
Volunteer Monday through Thursday, evenings (two hour blocks). This volunteer position will provide a positive role model for participants ranging from ages 7-17. This individual should posses general tutoring skills and be able to "lend a hand" in a variety of situations.
Outline of Volunteer's Responsibilities/Tasks::
- Assist with classroom nutrition activities (reading, writing, possible food prep)
- Instill leadership skills through team building games, character education and youth volunteering
- May include accompanying group on field trips
- Assist with clean up after snacks and projects
- Mentor youth through support and positive motivation
- Communicate program ideas and/or concerns regarding youth behaviors/attitudes with program leader in a timely and confidential manner
- Demonstrate the ability to work with children using conflict resolution skills
- Model positive behavior
Qualifications:
Applicant must have a familiarity with urban youth and/or knowledge of youth work and development. Previous youth work or volunteer experience is preferred. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Bi-lingual skills is preferred, but not required.
Training/Supervision/Reporting:
Upon being selected to start your volunteer opportunity you will receive a tour of the facility. You'll have a chance to meet staff and get a feel for the environment you'll be working in. Signing in daily upon arrival and reporting to the YWCA lead program staff will be required.
Commitment:
Minimum of 2 hours per week, max of six hours per week. Evening schedule and occasional Saturday opportunities.
