Leanda Cave and Team LC at the YWCA Women’s Triathlon
One of the most decorated female triathletes in history and the first woman triathlete to win both the Ironman Triathlon and Ironman 70.3 World Championship in the same year will be at this year’s YWCA Women’s Triathlon. Leanda Cave will join YWCA Women’s Tri participants at the Race Expo and on race day (August 13) to share information about her triathlon team, Team LC, which has a mission similar to the YWCA Women’s Triathlon– Empowering Women Through Triathlon.
Heather Lendway Provides Insight on Leanda Cave, Team LC and her connection with this competitive triathlon team
Q: Tell us more about Leanda!
A: Leanda has been racing in triathlons for over 20 years. She has won four world championship titles, winning the Ironman 70.3 and Ironman World Championships both in the same year, a feat only one other female has done in the history of the sport. She has had countless other wins and podium appearances in her career in International Triathlon Union (ITU) racing and Ironman racing. In the past couple of years she’s started the Leanda Cave Foundation to help impact the health and lives of others.
Q: What’s “Team LC” and the Leanda Cave Foundation?
A: The Leanda Cave Foundation helps support Team LC, which is a triathlon team made up of women with all sorts of backgrounds and coming from all walks of life. The team is about creating a supportive community within the team and within the communities where we race.
Q: How did you get connected with Team LC?
A: I was thrilled to be offered a spot as an elite rep for Team LC. I feel my personal values and goals for the sport align very well with the goals of the team. I’m looking forward to working with the team to help my fellow teammates learn and grow in the sport as well as helping to build a stronger community of racers around us. That said, I think Tri Team LC is a great connection for the YWCA Women’s Tri as we share the common goal of empowering women of all ages and all walks of life.
