YWCA Endurance Sports

YWCA Minneapolis offers numerous opportunities throughout the year to work on your endurance sports skills, sometimes as group training sessions, sometimes as workshops or clinics.


Biking Classes

CompuTrainer

Experience great workouts on your own bike without stoplights, construction, or traffic. This indoor training option is great all year long. Bring and attach your own bike to equipment that will automatically adjust power demands to take you to a new level of cycling fitness. Registration required.

Running Classes 

Running Intervals

Working on form, speed and pacing are the best ways to become a faster runner and to keep running interesting. Add these to your running regime by attending our free, drop-in classes and get the added benefit of camaraderie while running. All paces are welcome. No registration required.

Location: YWCA Midtown in the Minneapolis Sports Center or neighboring outdoor track (weather permitting)

Swimming Classes 

High Intensity Water Running

Want to seriously challenge your cardio system and burn more calories without adding more mileage? Over 50% of endurance athletes will get injured in a year. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, or trying to prevent one, Water Running can challenge your fitness without the strain of gravity. This is a seriously intense pool workout for land-based athletes. Free and ongoing. No registration required.

Date: Mondays and Wednesdays
Time: Monday at 11:30 am -12:15pm; Wednesday at 6:30 am - 7:15 am

Tri Swim Prep

This class focuses on building a foundation for freestyle endurance swimming for triathletes. Swimmers will learn stroke mechanics, drills, and practice methods to train up to an endurance swim of 500 yards or more. Our most experienced Total Immersion coaches provide feedback and encouragement.

Learn and practice open water swimming skills such as freestyle efficiency, swimming straight, body contact, sighting, and strategy.

Triathlon Training Classes 

Triathlon Basics Clinic

If you are aiming for your first triathlon or could use a few more tips on the next one, this clinic is for you. YWCA Minneapolis USA Triathlon Certified Coaches will talk through what gear you need and don't need, clothing recommendations, what to expect on race day, how to make the swim less daunting, how the transition area works, triathlon rules and anything else on your mind!

Format: Presentation with panel of triathletes for Q&A.

Mini-Tri

Practice putting together all the components of a triathlon: open water swim, transition 1, bike, transition 2 and run. We provide a roped off transition area with bike racks and the support and guidance of Endurance Sports Coaches.

Personal Triathlon Skills Session

Get individual coaching to target a specific triathlon skill. Go beyond our group classes or learning from websites and books. Experienced triathletes can take their skills to the next level.  Beginning triathletes can get extra support where they need it. Register with a friend or on your own.

Cost: $125 one person or $175 two people

Restorative Athletics

Practice techniques that prevent injury, enhance your training, and increase performance. Whether you are a fitness enthusiast, competitive athlete or simply live an active life, this class will help keep you doing what you love. You will be guided through techniques that may include myofascial release, yoga, meditation, balance, stability, postural alignment and more. Registration required.
