Workshop Breaks Down Stereotypes, Exposes Girls to Construction Trade Careers
YWCA Minneapolis and Construction Careers Foundation (CCF) are partnering to present Power Girls!, an intensive workshop to educate and introduce middle school girls to the construction trades and learn about this non-traditional career path. Each girl will get to work side by side with local Twin Cities’ tradeswomen to learn about carpentry, pipefitting, commercial painting, electricity, how to tile and grout, and handle power tools as they construct a project to take home. Approximately 40 professional tradeswomen – apprentice, journey level and retired – will be working with the girls, sharing about their trade and the personal story their career.

Construction Careers Foundation was created in 2004 to align with and/or create educational opportunities for individuals to become aware of and enter into a career path within the union construction trades industry. CCF’s mission is to continually pursue avenues for changes in outreach, preparation and retention efforts to bring the next generation into this industry.
