Attraction to YWCA's Mission Led to Work with GenYWCA
I became familiar with the YWCA of Minneapolis through their wonderful annual Circle of Women fundraising event. A colleague invited me to the luncheon and I was so moved by the stories of success and lives changed from the youth programs, and by the enthusiasm and passion in the room that I knew the YWCA was an organization I wanted to get involved with at a deeper level.
Once I had experienced Circle of Women as an attendee, and knew that the YWCA's mission of eliminating racism, empowering women and encouraging healthy lifestyles also mattered to me, I jumped onto the Circle of Women committee. When GenYWCA, the YW's young professionals group, formed I knew I wanted to join to be able to connect with other young leaders who were also passionate about the YWCA and what it stands for. GenYWCA and Circle of Women have been great opportunities to get involved and have been a way to contribute my time and energy to help further support the powerful work of the YWCA.
The people are my favorite part about the YWCA community. Everyone I've met at the YWCA -- staff, committee members, leaders, fitness trainers, volunteers -- all embody the spirit of the YW. It's refreshing to see how everyone is so devoted to the organization and works together to make a difference.
I would like to invite you to join me and GenYWCA on October 4 for a happy hour at Rye Deli & Bar on Hennepin Avenue. You'll learn more about the YWCA's youth programming and have a chance to contribute to an upcoming Halloween Party for the youth. If you have been wanting to get more involved, learn more about the YWCA, or just connect with other young professionals in a meaningful way, we would love to meet you there!
