Increased Intensity and Effectiveness with Compound Exercises
YWCA personal trainer Chloe Shovein provides tips on reducing your overall workout time with compound exercises.
Watch Chloe demonstrate compound exercises used to work multiple muscle groups at once (possibly shortening your gym time!):
“One of the biggest reasons for not making it to the gym consistently is perceived lack of time. Compound exercises allow you to train more than one muscle group at a time, shortening the time you spend in the gym.
One compound exercise to try is a lunge. This is a compound exercise because you are working the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings and calves. Adding a dumbbell in each hand can further intensify the move through increased core stabilization and balance.
When done correctly, compound exercises can make your workouts more intense and effective. Try adding some intervals to your compound exercise sets to really take it to the next level!”
