A Different Type of Environment
April 20, 2022
We recently learned more about one of our incredible fitness members, Sheena. In this Q&A, she tells us why she first became a fitness member, what she likes most about visiting our fitness centers and her advice for staying healthy and active throughout the years. Read Sheena’s story below!
When did you first become a member?
I started my membership with YWCA Minneapolis in 2009 at YWCA Midtown and knew I wanted to become healthier. Even though I had the membership I wasn’t dedicated or going very often. I started to become overweight and it caused a lot of pain in my knees and ankles. I eventually made the decision to change my diet and lost 60 pounds! The pain in my body stopped and that’s what triggered my fitness journey. It started off as weight loss, but it eventually turned into bodybuilding.
How has the pandemic affected your workout routine?
YWCA Minneapolis has been a tremendous help for me to transform my body by fulfilling all my training needs, helping me reach goals and making continuous progress. I did research and found a meal plan and a workout plan to follow my workouts. I work out certain body parts on certain days and that’s what works for me.
What do you like most about exercising with us?
What I love most about YWCA Minneapolis is the training. No matter what time I come in, I am able to get everything done. It is never crowded and I absolutely love that!
What are your favorite parts of being a member?
My favorite part about being a member is the kindness and love I’m shown by just showing up. To walk in and be addressed by my name, it makes me feel welcome and that staff knows who I am. It touches my heart deeply to know that my efforts are noticed by not only staff but also the other fitness members who come in. The love and acknowledgment I’m shown here is definitely my favorite. It is a different type of environment that’s only felt at YWCA Minneapolis.
Do you have any advice for others on staying healthy and active?
The advice I have is: if you are on a wellness or fitness journey, work hard, stay consistent, have patience and no matter what, do NOT stop the grind.
No matter what obstacles come, if you don’t give up, you get where you want to be.
