Race Forward 2-Day

Race Forward 2-Day

We are excited to announce our 2022 race weekend, Race Forward 2-Day! Through these events, we will race forward to advance the mission of YWCA Minneapolis to eliminate racism and empower women. You can choose our 5K Run/Walk for people of all ages, genders and abilities, or our Women’s Triathlon — or both! Together we can race forward to advance racial and gender equity.

 Dates: Saturday – Sunday, August 13-14, 2022
Time: Races begin at 8:00 am
Location: Lake Nokomis
Cost: $0 – $175

Two Events, One Weekend

The 5K Run/Walk is an untimed community fun run/walk. Children under 10 can register for free and virtual options are available. Bring your friends and families together for a casual (or competitive) run/walk against racism. We make every effort to accommodate adaptive participants in this event.

The Women’s Triathlon celebrates the strength of all women. We welcome all women and non-binary people who identify with womanhood to challenge themselves to a swim, bike and run around Lake Nokomis. The event course is also para-friendly for adaptive athletes, and some scholarships are available for first-time athletes. All racers age 11 and up are welcome to participate — regardless of skill or activity level.

Why Race Forward 2-Day?

Gender and racial disparities in sports participation, health outcomes, and physical well-being are endemic in our culture. Women and girls, especially those who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), are less likely to participate in sports due to social stigma, lack of access, and limited representation. Racism, both structural and interpersonal, has a direct, negative effect on the mental and physical health of millions of people in America.

Our goal is to create a safe and welcoming space for individuals of all abilities to participate in physical challenges that also challenge the status quo. We bring individuals and families together to call attention to these important cultural and public health issues in our Race Forward 2-Day weekend of events.

Team Forward

Team Forward is made up of our incredible ambassadors! Become an ambassador and raise awareness and funds that propel our mission forward. Ambassadors receive tools, templates, personalized support and great perks to help meet their fundraising goals. Your registration fee will automatically go toward your fundraising goal.

Funds raised through this event go directly toward advancing the mission of YWCA Minneapolis. YWCA empowers our community with the tools to fight inequities at every level. We deliver the insights and skills to help people take a stand against racism and create a more equitable world for everyone. Through our work, we:

  • Teach skills that individuals can use as they begin or continue their journey against racism
  • Help build commitments to policies and practices that create long-term, sustainable change
  • Invite open dialogue and discussion toward the goal of mutual understanding
  • Raise awareness of oppression on interpersonal, institutional and systemic levels

YWCA Minneapolis strives every day for:

  • Race and gender equity
  • Economic independence for women
  • Respect for diverse cultures
  • Children and youth who thrive
  • A community that is vibrant and healthy

We acknowledge that YWCA facilities and this event take place on Indigenous land. The Dakota, Anishinaabe and Indigenous people from other Native nations lived here for thousands of years before being removed through genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced removal. We wish to pay respects to these communities, both past and present.
