Safe and Welcoming Facilities

We’re working hard to help keep you safe with enhanced health and safety protocols. You’ll find fewer members working out alongside you, frequent cleaning and sanitizing, a positive mask-wearing environment and maximum social distancing. YWCA Minneapolis is a community that takes care of one another!

Update: Workout block reservations are no longer required to access the fitness floor at any of our three fitness facilities. Reservations are still required for lap swim, in-person group fitness classes or YWCA Live! virtual classes.

Here’s what we’re doing to help keep you safe:

  • We are taking a phased approach. We’ll only reopen areas in the facility where we can implement enhanced health and safety protocols.
  • We are practicing social distancing. We ask that you stay six feet apart from other members. You will notice increased spacing between equipment and within workout areas. Look for extra signs to guide you through each space.
  • We are limiting capacity in certain areas. To ensure enough space for social distancing, we’re only allowing a specific number of people in certain areas of the facility at one time. Workouts do not require a reservation. Attending a fitness class or lap swim requires a reservation. Learn more about the reservation process.
  • We are cleaning frequently. We are sanitizing all equipment and surfaces with disinfectant in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and we have implemented enhanced cleaning protocols and procedures.
  • We are providing self-cleaning stationsThese will be conveniently located throughout the facility with easy, readily available equipment disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer.
  • We are wearing face masks. We are wearing face masks, and members and visitors are required to wear a face mask or face covering when in our facilities — for your own health and safety, as well as the safety of others.
  • We are asking for your help. Please use your best judgment. If you’re not feeling well, have a fever or other flu-like symptoms, we ask that you stay home.

Facility FAQs

We are continuing to reopen our facilities taking into account local, state and federal guidelines. To prioritize the health and safety of our members and staff, we have put new protocols in place to increase cleaning and maintain social distancing. We have also made changes to our hours, classes and services.

Are there any changes to facility hours?

Our facilities will have shorter operating hours to allow us extra time to sanitize everything properly. See updated hours.

What services have been suspended?

The following services are temporarily suspended. We will carefully evaluate when to resume these services in alignment with governmental orders and guidelines.

What about Total Immersion and safety certifications?

These services are suspended indefinitely.

When will locker rooms open?

Locker rooms are open with limited use at YWCA Downtown, YWCA Midtown and YWCA Uptown. There are limitations on day-use locker availability; please check capacity signage within locker rooms. Towel service is not available. Hair and hand dryers are not available.

What activities are you offering for families?

We are currently offering swim PODS and gym PODS. Learn more about our POD Activities, policies and how to reserve a spot.

When will the track reopen?

The track is open during operating hours at YWCA Midtown and Uptown.

Are there any protocols around pool use?

Our approach to limited pool hours allows our team the time needed to prepare, clean and reset to ensure a positive member experience. Pool entrances differ by location, and members will exit through the locker rooms. To allow our staff to disinfect and sanitize between each swim block, please be prepared to exit the facility at the end of your swim block. Swim block reservations are required at the Downtown, Midtown and Uptown locations. Please reserve your swim block in advance of arrival. Swim reservations may be made in advance up to three days prior. Please limit your reservations to one swim block per day and no more than three swim blocks per week. For your comfort, we recommend arriving with your swimsuit on, as day lockers will not be available at some of the sites.

Some other details:

  • Masks are required at all times, except in the pool and showers.
  • Personal belongings will need to be stored in marked spots on the pool deck. At Midtown, we encourage you to use the lockers.
  • Towel rentals are not available, so please bring your own towel.
  • Locker rooms will be open for pool users.
  • Showering is required before entry into the pool. Please use the deck or locker room showers.
  • Kickboards, fins, pull buoys, noodles and water fitness equipment will not be provided. Please arrange to bring your own if needed.
  • Water fountains on deck are unavailable for member use, so water bottles should be filled before entry to the pool area.
  • Swimmers are expected to store swim equipment in designated areas and stop only at the assigned end.
  • To provide necessary spacing, swimmers will start in alternating shallow and deep ends of the pool, and use these ends as their primary resting areas.

What precautions are you taking to keep your employees safe?

We follow the CDC’s guidelines with regular deep cleanings of the facility and our team wipes down all high-touch surfaces throughout the day with disinfectant. We practice social distancing by reducing the number of people in the facility through shifts and dividing breaks across teams. We maintain six feet between workstations at all times. We conduct daily employee health screenings. Employees who are sick or feeling ill are required to stay home.

Can I bring my child to the facility?

Yes, youth ages 9 – 14 must complete a fitness orientation prior to using the fitness floor. Youth ages 9 – 11 must have active parental supervision and may be restricted in the use of fitness floor equipment.
