Working out at the gym will feel a little different, but we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together.

Here’s what we’re doing to help keep you safe:

  • We are taking a phased approach. We’ll only reopen areas in the facility where we can implement enhanced health and safety protocols.
  • We are practicing social distancing. We ask that you stay six feet apart from other members. You will notice increased spacing between equipment and within workout areas. Look for extra signs to guide you through each space.
  • We are limiting facility capacity. To ensure enough space for social distancing, we’re only allowing a certain number of people in each facility at one time. This means you will have to reserve a time to enter. Learn more about the reservation process.
  • We are cleaning frequently. While the facility is open, we are sanitizing all equipment and surfaces with disinfectant in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. We are also deep cleaning the facility every night.
  • We are providing self-cleaning stationsThese will be conveniently located throughout the facility with easy, readily available equipment disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer.
  • We are wearing face masks. We are wearing face masks, and members and visitors are required to wear a face mask or face covering when in our facilities — for your own health and safety, as well as the safety of others.
  • We are asking for your help. Please use your best judgment. If you’re not feeling well, have a fever or other flu-like symptoms, we ask that you stay home.

Facility FAQs

We are continuing to reopen our facilities taking into account local, state and federal guidelines. To prioritize the health and safety of our members and staff, we have put new protocols in place to increase cleaning and maintain social distancing. We have also made changes to our hours, classes and services.

Are there any changes to facility hours?

Our facilities will have shorter operating hours to allow us extra time to sanitize everything properly. See updated hours.

What services have been suspended?

The following services are temporarily suspended. We will carefully evaluate when to resume these services in alignment with governmental orders and guidelines.

What about total immersion, safety certifications and BODYFLOW?

These services are suspended indefinitely.

When will locker rooms open?

Locker rooms are open at YWCA Midtown. Limited use of locker room areas at YWCA Downtown began Monday, November 2. Limitations on day-use locker availability due to social distancing will be in place; please check capacity signage within locker rooms. Towel service is not available. Hair and hand dryers are not available. Rental lockers will resume charges as of December 1. Masks must be worn to and from shower stalls, and throughout the rest of the locker room area and while in our facilities.

When will basketball gyms open?

Basketball courts at YWCA Downtown and YWCA Uptown are available for member-only use. Each gym space is divided into Court #1 and Court #2 and can be used in 30-minute increments. Members can either call on the day of to reserve basketball court space or walk in (must have a workout reservation to enter). Each court can be used by either one member or a family of five or fewer. Pickup games are not allowed and members must utilize their reserved court for the duration of their time in the basketball gym. Masks must be worn at all times while in the basketball gym.

When will the track reopen?

The track is open at YWCA Midtown and YWCA Uptown. A workout reservation is required to enter the facility and use the track.

  • Thursday: Available all day
  • Friday: Available all day
  • Saturday: Closed all day
  • Sunday: Available all day

Are there any protocols around pool use?

Our approach to limited pool hours allows our team the time needed to prepare, clean and reset to ensure a positive member experience. Pool entrances will differ among locations, and members will exit through the locker rooms. To allow our staff to disinfect and sanitize between each swim block, please be prepared to exit the facility at the end of your swim block. Please reserve your swim block in advance of arrival (Downtown and Midtown only). For your comfort, we recommend to arrive with your swimsuit on, as day lockers will not be available.

Some other details:
  • Personal belongings will need to be stored on the pool deck.
  • Towel rentals are not available, so please bring your own towel.
  • Locker rooms will be open exclusively for pool users.
  • Using the pool deck shower is encouraged before entering the pool.
  • Kickboards, fins, pull buoys, noodles and water fitness equipment will not be provided. Please arrange to bring your own if needed.
  • Water fountains on deck are unavailable for member use, so water bottles should be filled before entry to the pool area.
  • Swimmers are expected to store swim equipment in designated areas and stop only at the assigned end.

Uptown Pool Changes

Beginning November 2, YWCA Uptown will be ending the reservation system for the pool and moving access to first-come, first-served. YWCA Midtown and Downtown pools will remain on the reservation system. The change at Uptown will allow for an improved member experience, expanded pool hours and improved flow and capacity of a safe and organized aquatic space. Here is what you can expect when you come to swim at the Uptown pool.

  • Lanes will be clearly marked for capacity. There will be lanes available for single swimmers at all open pool times.
  • Swimmers may use a single swimmer lane with another person with whom they share a living space.
  • Lanes with a capacity of two swimmers will have marked traffic flow, and each swimmer will leave equipment and rest at opposite ends of the pool to maintain safe distancing.
    • Swimmers entering at the shallow end will use the outside window (west) side of the lane.
    • Swimmers entering at the deep end will use the inside window (east) side of the lane.
    • Private lessons are also still in operation and may require the use of a lane for this service.
  • All lanes are first-come-first-serve.
  • Pool hours will extend into periods when the rest of the building is going through deep cleaning. To use the pool during these times, please check in before the building has closed, and report directly to the pool.
  • All pool users will need to check in at the front desk.
  • Please be respectful of fellow swimmers and limit lane use to no more than 60-minutes.

Using the Uptown Pool

  • Swimmers should enter from the lobby door entrance.
  • Shoes should be left at the entry door
  • Swimmers should wear their swimsuit to the facility under their clothes.
  • Clothes and personal items can be stored at any of the marked stations, that are spaced 6 or more feet apart on the pool deck, for the duration of the swim.
  • All swimmers must take a cleansing shower with soap immediately before using the pool.
  • Swimming equipment can be brought for use, but snorkels are not allowed in the pool area.
  • Locker rooms are available after pool use.
  • Pool administration and lifeguards will be doing regular spot cleaning around the pool.
  • At the end of the day, the pool area will close 15 minutes prior to the building.

Midtown Pool Updates

On November 9, the Midtown pool will move to 45-minute reservation blocks. We will also be changing the number of days swim reservations may be made in advance to three days prior. Please limit your reservations to one swim block per day and no more than three swim blocks per week.

Downtown Pool Updates

On November 2, the Downtown pool will be adding reservation spaces during non-swim lesson and class times. We will also be changing the number of days swim reservations may be made in advance to three days prior.

What precautions are you taking to keep your employees safe?

We follow the CDC’s guidelines with regular deep cleanings of the facility and our team wipes down all high-touch surfaces throughout the day with disinfectant. We practice social distancing by reducing the number of people in the facility through shifts and dividing breaks across teams. We maintain six feet between workstations at all times. For any team members who may be sick or feeling ill, we require them to stay home.

Can I bring my child to the facility?

For the health and safety of our community, we are limiting child access to the Fit Kids Gym at Midtown (reservation required). Access to the fitness floor is limited to members ages 15 years or older.

Can I bring a guest?

We are not allowing guest access at this time.
