Indoor Triathlons

Registration for 2019 YWCA Indoor Triathlons Now Open!

Brave the event, not the elements! Indoor Triathlons at YWCA Minneapolis are an excellent opportunity to stay focused during the cold Minnesota winters, engage with your community and make progress towards your personal fitness goals. Adults and youth (of all genders) age 14 and up are welcome to join, even those without past triathlon or racing experience.

If this is your first triathlon, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the positive and supportive atmosphere. Similar to the YWCA Women’s Triathlon, our indoor events can help novices gain competence and confidence — while acting as a great addition to the training regimen of seasoned athletes. In either case, expect to enjoy a day of excitement, encouragement and connection with your fellow racers.

Volunteer for a YWCA Indoor Triathlon

If you’d like to get involved with our Indoor Triathlon without competing, then join us as a community volunteer! Sign up to help register racers, monitor competitions, pass out snacks and much more. People of all ages and levels of ability are welcome to volunteer.

  • Volunteers who sign up for three shifts get a choice of $25 toward endurance sports classes, triathlon classes or clinics, or the set of 4 Indoor Triathlon glasses.
  • Volunteers who sign up for five or more shifts get a choice of $50 toward endurance sports classes, triathlon classes or clinics, or the Indoor Triathlon specialty finisher vest.

Course Information & Distances

  • Mini Course consists of a 400-yard swim, four-mile bike course and a one-mile run.
  • Sprint Course consists of a 500-yard swim, five-mile bike course and a two-mile run.
  • Long Course consists of a 600-yard swim, six-mile bike course and a 5K (3.1-mile) run. (Relays use the Long Course)

Swim
YWCA Midtown’s pool is a six-lane, 25-yard pool. Two triathletes will share a lane. Each lane will have a lap recorder/timer. Average water temperature is 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • 600 yards = 12 laps/24 lengths
  • 500 yards = 10 laps/20 lengths
  • 400 yards = 8 laps/16 lengths

Bike
Our new bikes will be more accurate to actual road miles during bike courses this year!
You can adjust the bike for a comfortable fit. One side of the pedal is a standard platform with toe cages. The other side of the pedal is compatible with SPD-style bike cleat.

Run
Run or walk on the track in the Minneapolis Sports Center — a regulation 200-meter indoor track.
