Despite what some may think, it’s never too late — or too early — to learn how to swim. YWCA Minneapolis offers convenient, high-quality swimming and aquatics training for all ages, from infant to adult. Our selection of classes, swim teams and safety courses allows you to choose an option that works for you or your child. In all of our classes, our trained instructors help participants achieve greater confidence and skill in the water.
YWCA Minneapolis offers classes year-round, with sessions starting in winter, spring, summer and fall. Take some time to peruse our available lessons and determine which option best suits your needs.
Group swim lessons offer an excellent opportunity for infants, toddlers, youth and adults alike to develop their skills, learn water safety and gain confidence in a supportive environment. YWCA Minneapolis boasts a wide range of swimming courses year round, covering all ages and abilities.
Private swim lessons provide clients with exceptional one-on-one training in the pool, with a qualified instructor at their side. Individual attention can benefit children requiring some extra help and elite swimmers looking to develop race strategies for competitions. YWCA Minneapolis offers both private and semi-private lessons to fit a variety of schedules and unique needs. Work with a skilled instructor to learn at your own pace and make the most of your lesson time, or consider taking a semi-private lesson alongside one or two friends of similar skill.
Bridge the gap between swim lessons and swim team! In this camp kids will learn the basics of competitive stroke technique for butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. We will teach racing starts and turns. Participants will learn in a positive atmosphere and have the chance to experience a team setting, from hard sets to game time. Above all else, you learn how much fun you have on a swim team!
In addition to our youth swimming offerings, YWCA Minneapolis boasts our own masters swim program, which welcomes swimmers from ages 18 to 80. Practices cover a variety of topics, from triathlon training to stroke development. We even offer a class specifically for our senior masters!
If you can comfortably swim 200 yards of freestyle and are a member of United States Masters Swimming, YWCA’s masters swim team is for you. Signing up for the team gives you access to our award-winning coaching team and over 15 hours of practice options each week at our YWCA Downtown, Midtown and Uptown locations.
We encourage kids of all ages to give competitive youth swimming a go by trying out for our Otters Swim Team. Beginning and advanced swimmers alike improve their skills in a supportive environment complete with flexible practice schedules at our Uptown and Midtown locations. Our dedicated coaches are passionate about helping Otters become confident individuals in and out of the water. Swimmers will be placed in groups corresponding to their age and abilities, where they learn key skills like good sportsmanship and healthy nutrition habits.
We offer Total Immersion (TI) swimming instruction, the best way to master a faster, more fluid and efficient freestyle stroke. Total Immersion is an internationally known method of instruction for developing habits of ease, efficiency and speed in any level of swimmer. Using drills, innovative tools and above and below water video analysis, participants accelerate the development of their swimming technique.
