Personal Training: Level 1
“I believe exercise improves quality of life, and exercise enjoyment is the key to staying regularly active. When we focus on process goals (exercising this often, for this long) rather than outcome goals (lifting or losing x number of lbs) we are more likely to stay motivated and build a lifelong habit of physical activity.”
What is your favorite workout?
The slow, controlled focus required for lifting heavy free weights clears my mind and forces me to stay present. I love the technical aspects of complex exercises like squats and deadlifts, and all of the small refinements that one can make in their effort to lift heavier weight.
What do you consider your greatest fitness accomplishment?
Discovering that physical exercise dramatically improves my emotional well being.
What is your biggest athletic goal?
I’m always working to improve my form and technique. When I’m in the gym I try to focus on making every repetition as controlled and deliberate as possible. You’d be surprised how much there is to learn when trying to master a particular lift.
What is your biggest goal outside of the gym?
To reinvigorate my passion for creating visual art, and find a medium that allows me to communicate freely and emotionally.
What do you do on your rest days?
When I’m not exercising, I love to make and consume art, read books, life-lists, watch films and go birding (birdwatching with binoculars).
