GenYWCA Fitness Social Will Be an Active Evening of Networking

GenYWCA is a great way for me, as a YWCA fitness member, to get involved with the YWCA in a bigger way than just a challenging workout. I enjoy my involvement on the committee and the chance to meet other like-minded young people who want to get involved and make a difference. For me, the YWCA is definitely more than a gym.Being on the GenYWCA Committee has really shown me that my opinion counts. Plus, I have made some really good friends. So far in 2012, I've done a photo shoot and a radio interview for GenYWCA. I have also learned more about the mission of the YWCA beyond the gym’s walls. I can now talk about the YWCA Woman's Triathalon, their powerful youth development work, and their amazing Early Childhood program -- all things I didn't know about a year ago.The 2011 Fitness Social was a really fun event and my first introduction to GenYWCA. I got to sample Kettlebell and Pilates and had my InBody assessment done. And I saw my yoga instructor, Lola, there, which was an added bonus! Our 2012 Fitness Social will be even better than last year's. I am excited for the mini Boot Camp class lead by Tim Pearson –- and who knows? Maybe you will see me showing off my moves in the Zumba class with Leo or strengthening my core doing Mat Pilates. An exciting part about this year's event is our goal to raise $500 for a year-long health and fitness scholarship for a Latino youth and their family in a culturally specific fitness and nutrition program at the YWCA. Luis, the program coordinator, will be there to share a great story about one of the youth. I am excited to watch us reach our fundraising goal and appreciate your help with reaching that goal! How often do you get to combine a workout and networking (aka "sweatworking") on a downtown rooftop in the summer? My thoughts exactly. Register today and mark your calendars for Thursday, June 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. I look forward to doing some burpees with you!
