Get Involved: March Advocacy Events
YWCA Minneapolis is participating in several advocacy and civic engagement efforts this March. As an organization committed to eliminating racism and empowering women, civic engagement is a core part of our mission. Community members are welcome to attend, learn and take action on issues affecting voting access, equality, reproductive freedom and children’s wellbeing.
Explore the opportunities below to find ways to get involved in ways that feel meaningful to you.
Federal Advocacy
The SAVE Act
YWCA Minneapolis and YWCA USA are monitoring the federal SAVE Act and its potential impact on voting access. Earlier this month, the U.S. House passed the anti-voter SAVE Act. A bill that would make it harder for millions of eligible voters to cast their ballots.
If passed, the SAVE Act would require every American citizen to provide either a passport or an original copy of their birth certificate when registering to vote and whenever they update their voter registration. Protecting voting rights is a nonpartisan issue fundamental to equity, representation and democracy.
YWCA Minneapolis opposes this legislation due to concerns about its potential impact on voting access. This bill would especially burden military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural disasters, communities of color and married women who have changed their last names. Individuals who share these concerns are encouraged to contact their Senators and express their views on the legislation.
Take action today: Email your Member of Congress and tell them to vote NO on the SAVE Act.
State-Level Advocacy
YWCA Minneapolis is actively advocating at the Minnesota State Capitol this March, and we invite you to join us in making your voice heard. Participating in these events is a meaningful way to practice civic engagement, support equity and education, and stand alongside our community in advocating for change.

Advocacy for Children Day at the Capitol
Wednesday, March 25 | 9–11 am

Adults, educators, parents and partners are encouraged to attend.
Planning Your Visit to the Capitol
The Minnesota State Capitol has implemented a new security system. The process is quick and non-invasive, but we encourage all attendees to review what to expect in advance. Additionally, we encourage all attendees to review the parking map and allow extra time for parking and walking to the Capitol.
